The afternoon problem

By three o'clock, the air stops moving

A closed coop turns into an oven. Ammonia and moisture settle at floor level, and the birds go quiet and stop eating.

Same story under glass: trapped humidity, condensation on the glazing, mildew creeping up the lower leaves. The obvious fix is a fan. The problem is there is no outlet out there — and running one costs more than the fan ever will.

Three steps, one afternoon, ordinary tools

STEP 01

Fit the fan

Wall, roof, or a vent hole you already have. Brackets, screws, anchors and ties are in the box.

STEP 02

Angle the panel

Tilt it into the sun on its adjustable stand, within 16 ft of the fan. One DC plug joins the two.

STEP 03

Leave it alone

No inverter, no controller, no switch to remember. Light on the panel is the whole operating system.

What this fan will not do

Direct solar drive buys you a free install. It costs you control. If any line below is a dealbreaker, buy a thermostat unit instead — you will be happier and we will have fewer returns.

  • Daylight only No battery. It will not run after dark or bank charge for a grey week.
  • No thermostat It answers to sunlight, not temperature. You cannot set a trigger point.
  • One fan, one panel Quoted at 220 CFM. Right for a small structure, not for a barn.
  • 16 ft of cable The panel has to live within that distance of the fan. There is no extension.
  • Wants direct sun Dappled shade under a tree will drop output noticeably.

Sizing

Match the fan to the volume, not the floor area

220 CFM turns over roughly 400–500 cubic feet every couple of minutes. Measure length × width × average height before you order.

Well within range

The step most people skip Cut or open a low inlet vent on the far side of the structure. Without one the fan pulls against its own vacuum and moves very little air — which is the single most common reason an extractor seems underpowered.
Before you ask

Questions we actually get

Does it come with a battery?
No. The panel drives the fan directly, so it runs while the sun is on it and stops when the light goes. If you need overnight airflow, this is the wrong product.
Does it have a thermostat?
No. Speed tracks sunlight rather than temperature. The two tend to move together in a glazed or south-facing structure, but you cannot set a switch-on point.
Will it work in a shipping container?
Yes, provided you can cut a fan opening and a low inlet on the opposite end, and the panel can sit outside in sun. Containers hold heat and condensation badly, so a low vent matters more here than anywhere else.
Can I use it in a dog house or barn?
A dog house or small animal shelter is well within range. A full barn is not — 220 CFM will not turn over that volume.
